Day 1 – Tuesday, September 6 – Overnight Flight
Epic scenery, winding coastlines, remarkable cultural diversity and abundant wildlife come together in an incredible experience.
Day 2 – Wednesday, September 7 – Cape Town, South Africa – Tour Begins
Welcome to the beautiful harborside city of Cape Town. Its architecture fuses French, German and Dutch traditions which sets the stage for a thrilling cultural journey. Tonight, gather for an Amazing Journeys Welcome Orientation and group dinner. (D)
Day 3 – Thursday, September 8 – Cape Town – Robben Island – Cape Town
Explore Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, home to over 5,000 species of plants native to South Africa. Next, enjoy a cruise out to Robben Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to see where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. This evening, savor a true African dining experience sampling local delicacies. You will delight in unique traditional African performances and learn how to play the African drum! (B, D)
Day 4 – Friday, September 9 – Cape Town
Step aboard a cable car that whisks you to an altitude of more than 3,000 feet atop Table Mountain. Gaze at the astounding view of Cape Town, Robben Island and Lion’s Head. Next visit the Jewish Museum and Holocaust Center. Tonight, we’ll visit a local Synagogue for Shabbat services, South African style. (B)
Day 5 – Saturday, September 10 – Cape Town
Travel out to Cape Point on the southwestern tip of Africa. Along the way, marvel at the coastal scenery and pleasant towns that populate the Cape Peninsula. Listen to the tales behind the numerous ship wrecks which attest to the treacherous nature of these waters. Come to know the Cape of Good Hope and take a tram to the top of the mountain. Enjoy a leisurely hike down before continuing on to Boulders Beach to see the penguins who call it home. Later this evening, make some new South African friends during a home-hosted dinner. Sit down with a local family and learn about their daily life. Perhaps you’ll share stories from your own experiences. (B, D)
Day 6 – Sunday, September 11 – Cape Town – Stellenbosch
After a leisurely morning, a short drive brings you to the beautiful winelands of the Western Cape. Visit a winery for a tasting before enjoying a farm lunch paired with wine. Your hotel for the next two nights is located in the heart of picturesque Stellenbosch. The remainder of your afternoon is at leisure to explore this charming town, the second oldest in South Africa. (B, L)
Day 7 – Monday, September 12 – Stellenbosch – Hermanus – Stellenbosch
Enjoy a leisurely drive over the Sir Lowry Pass to the quaint seaside village of Hermanus. A walking tour will acquaint you with the village. Enjoy some leisure time to explore the shops and art galleries or perhaps an optional whale watching excursion before returning to Stellenbosch. (B)
Day 8 – Tuesday, September 13 – Stellenbosch – Johannesburg – Entabeni Conservancy
Fly to the city of Johannesburg. Upon arrival, we’ll head out to the Entabeni Conservancy. Gather for an afternoon game drive. Have your cameras ready as you search for the “Big Five” (lion, African elephant, Cape buffalo, leopard and rhino). As the sun sets, enjoy a traditional African sundowner. Get out of your 4×4 and gaze over the land as the sun drops behind the mountains. Keep your eyes peeled for the big cats preparing to hunt. Return to the lodge for dinner under the stars. (B, D)
Day 9 – Wednesday, September 14 – Entabeni Conservancy
Rise before the sun and set out on a game drive. Enjoy coffee and tea in the bush before returning to the lodge for breakfast. Later, learn to follow the clues left by wildlife during a track identification walk with a ranger. After you have worked up an appetite, take time for a leisurely lunch in the gardens. Later this afternoon, continue your search for the “Big Five” during another exciting game drive. (B, L, D)
Day 10 – Thursday, September 15 – Entabeni Conservancy – Johannesburg
Carry on your quest for the “Big Five” before breakfast. Later, journey to the vibrant city of Johannesburg. En route, our Tour Manager helps us discover the history of the local languages. A guided tour of Soweto – South West Township – showcases luxurious mansions and informal settlements. We’ll stop for a visit the Apartheid Museum. (B)
Day 11 – Friday, September 16 – Victoria Falls
Fly to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Spend some time at a local village learning more about the regional culture. Embark on a walking tour of stunning Victoria Falls. Later, you may enjoy a sundowner poolside and the spectacular African sunset while the animals gather at the watering hole. Tonight, we’ll gather with our AJ community for a beautiful Shabbat together. (B, D)
Day 12 – Saturday, September 17 – Victoria Falls
This morning explore a local craft market. Later you will meet African elephants and have the opportunity to interact with them before you enjoy some free time at the our lodge. Reflect on your surroundings as you relax overlooking the wildlife watering hole or enjoy our hotel pool. In addition, we will direct you to many optional tours for those who want to further explore the area. (B)
Day 13 – Sunday, September 18 – Victoria Falls – Chobe, Botswana
Watch for bushbuck as well as bird life during a nature walk with a local guide. We cross the border today as we travel to Chobe, Botswana. An exciting safari cruise awaits. Spot wildlife along the water’s edge, find hippos swimming along the shores, and crocodiles basking in the sun. (B, L, D)
Day 14 – Monday, September 19 – Chobe
Today features morning and afternoon game drives in the one-of-a-kind Chobe National Park. View the animals as they drink from the river. Tonight we join together for our Amazing Journeys Farewell Event. Then enjoy dinner by the river hosted by a chef who will teach you the art of cooking a traditional Braai (barbecue) complete with some local favorites such as game meat. (B, L, D)
Day 15 – Tuesday, September 20 – Chobe – Johannesburg – Tour Ends
Fly to Johannesburg where your tour comes to a close. You will arrive home the following day. (B)

International and Intra-Africa Air:
International or domestic airfare is not included in the tour rate. Flight packages are available as follows. Passengers must select one option:
A) International Flight Package: Includes air from JFK, 3 Intra-African flights, airport transfers and taxes: $2289
B) Intra-African Flight Package: Includes 3 Intra-African flights and taxes: $1290 (transfer in Cape Town is additional $50)
Business class for international flights may be available at an upgraded rate upon request. Airfares are subject to change until airline tickets are purchased. Once airline tickets are purchased, they are subject to a cancellation fee of 100%. This penalty is part of the cancellation penalties listed on the Terms tab.
Please note: A group flight consists of at least 10 passengers traveling together on the same itinerary. If we fall below this number, we may be unable to provide air for the price listed.
All rooms are non-smoking where we match roommates. Items listed on this website are subject to change at any time. By providing payment you agree to the terms and conditions as outlined on this website.
Cancellation Policy: From the time of deposit until May 17, 2016, there is a $100 penalty for cancellation. From May 18 – July 1, 2016, the cancellation penalty is $750. From July 2 – August 5, 2016, the cancellation penalty is 50% of the tour price and 100% of the airline ticket which is non-refundable. From August 6, 2016 until the day of travel, the cancellation penalty is 100% of the total package price, including airfare. Cancellations made on the day of departure and “no-shows” will receive no refund. There is no refund in the event of interruption or cancellation by the passenger after the start of the journey.
Cancellation Insurance: Cancellation insurance is recommended. Information will be sent with your tour confirmation.
Taxes, Service Charges, Government Fees and Gratuities: All taxes, service charges and government fees have been included in the cost of the tour package and airline tickets. Gratuities have been included on this itinerary for included features. They include tips for drivers and guides, safari guides, tour manager, servers for included meals, and baggage handling in and out of each hotel. Taxes, service charges and government fees are subject to change. At this time, there are no departure taxes from the airports on this itinerary.
Flights and Transfers: International or domestic airfare is not included in the tour rate.
Passport and Visa Requirements: A valid passport is required for travel to Africa. It must have at least 6 months validity beyond the last date of travel. A visa is not required for entrance into South Africa for US Citizens. A visa is required for Zimbabwe. The cost is approximately $45 for US citizens and $150 for Canadian Citizens paid in US dollars upon arrival. A visa is not needed for Botswana for US citizens. Visas are available upon arrival into each country. More details will be provided closer to the travel date. Please note that visa requirements may change at any time. All passengers must have a minimum of 4 blank VISA pages in their passport to enable an entry stamp to be issued. Two pages for South Africa must be facing each other. Page must state the word “visa” and not “endorsement” at the top of the page. No photos are necessary.
Transportation on Safari: While on safari, you will travel in large 4 x 4 safari jeeps. Jeeps hold 6 – 10 passengers.
Baggage: Please note that due to baggage requirements on our internal flights, a maximum of 44 – 50 pounds of luggage per person will be permitted.
