By sea and then by land, Alaska offers a wonderfully unique experience that exhilarates you with each and every glance. You’ll experience the true “northern exposure” as we journey from Seward to Alyeska Resort, high in the mountains above Anchorage, Alaska’s most spirited cosmopolitan city. Traveling to Denali National Park, home to Mt. McKinley, the highest mountain in North America, this six million acre national park is home to the greatest collection of moose, grizzly bears, caribou, Dahl sheep, wolves, eagles, and other incredible wildlife. We then hop aboard the famous Alaska Railroad, a comfortable, full-service domed railcar for our breathtaking journey to Fairbanks.
Friday, July 6 – Seward – Anchorage
We begin in Seward where you will have the opportunity to experience the National Park Wildlife & Glacier Cruise. Keep an eye out for whales, puffin and soaring bald eagles as you take in the beauty that Alaska has to offer. On our way to Anchorage, we will stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, where you will see bears, an eagle, moose and many other animals up-close and personal, who were injured in the wild and come here to live. Tonight we’ll arrive in Anchorage and enjoy a Shabbat service followed by a group dinner. Overnight in Anchorage. (D)
Saturday, July 7 – Anchorage – Denali National Park
This morning we will spend a few hours enjoying the largest city in Alaska – Anchorage. You may choose to go biking or hiking along the waterfront on the Tony Knowles Trail, visit a museum, enjoy one of the many outdoor cafes and the Weekend Market, or shop in one of many cute little stores that line the streets. En route to Denali, we make a stop in Wasilla, home to the original starting line of the world famous Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Here, the Iditarod Headquarters will give us a glimpse into the history, pageantry and challenges this annual race means to each and every Alaskan. You can even take a simulated dog sled ride with pups in training. We continue onto Denali National Park where we’ll have a Pizza Party at the best pizza place in Alaska! Dinner is included and drinks are on us! Overnight in Denali. (D)
Sunday, July 8 – Denali National Park
This morning we wake up bright and early for a Tundra Wilderness Tour of Denali National Park, 60 miles deep into the National Preserve. On our 6 – 8 hour tour, watch for Grizzly bears, moose, caribou and Dall Sheep. This afternoon, we have arranged many optional tours (some at an additional fee) such as white water rafting, hiking, horseback riding, flightseeing to view Mt. McKinley, dog mushing demonstrations and more! This evening, join us for the Cabin Night Dinner Theater, a lively look at life in Alaska 100 years ago, with music, humor and storytelling. Overnight in Denali. (D)
Monday, July 9 – Denali National Park – Fairbanks
This morning is yours to explore the area of Denali National Park. Hiking, ranger lectures and activities are all yours to enjoy. This afternoon, we travel on the McKinley Explorer Domed Railcar to Fairbanks, arriving this evening. Overnight in Fairbanks.
Tuesday, July 10 – Fairbanks
This morning you are in for a treat as we take you to the home of Mary Shields, the first woman ever to have finished the Iditarod. You’ll meet Mary and her team of sled dogs and learn about the sport she still continues today. You will tour her hand-made home and visit her garden, with some of the largest vegetables you will ever see in your life! Our tour ends this afternoon. Transfers will be provided to the Fairbanks Airport throughout the day and evening for your flight home.
