Sunday, May 23 – Krakow, Poland – Budapest, Hungary – Post-Tour Begins
This morning you’ll check out of your hotel and set out on a scenic journey from Krakow to Budapest, traveling through Slovakia and the breathtaking Tatra Mountains. As dramatic peaks rise around you, engage in a guided conversation exploring the layered history, shifting borders, and rich cultural tapestry of Central Europe, setting the stage for the days ahead.
Enjoy a group lunch en route, with time to relax and take in the changing landscapes.
This evening is yours to begin discovering the city at your own pace – step out for dinner, wander along the Danube, or soak in the vibrant atmosphere of Hungary’s capital.
Breakfast and lunch are included today.
Monday, May 24 – Budapest, Hungary
Begin your exploration with a drive up to Castle Hill, where Budapest unfolds before you. From this sweeping vantage point, take in the striking contrast between the rolling hills of Buda and the elegant boulevards of Pest, divided by the majestic Danube River. Walk through the cobblestone streets of this UNESCO World Heritage site, reflecting on its layered past, from medieval stronghold to near-total destruction in World War II, and its remarkable reconstruction into a cultural and national symbol. We’ll pause at Fisherman’s Bastion for one of the city’s most iconic panoramic views.
We continue to the Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest in Europe, whose grand Neo-Moorish architecture reflects a moment of hope and ambition in Jewish life at the turn of the 20th century. In the adjacent Raoul Wallenberg Memorial Park, stand before the poignant Tree of Life and reflect on loss, memory, and resilience. You’ll have some free time to enjoy lunch on your own in the lively Jewish Quarter, where history and modern energy intertwine.
After, visit the beautifully restored Rumbach Synagogue, a symbol of both destruction and renewal. Then, meet members of Budapest’s Jewish community at the JCC (Bálint Ház). Gain insight into the revival of Jewish life through conversation about cultural programming, identity and community-building in contemporary Hungary.
As evening approaches, experience the dynamic transformation of the Jewish Quarter – once neglected, now one of Budapest’s most vibrant neighborhoods. Explore its famous “ruin pubs,” eclectic courtyards and buzzing nightlife scene, where history and creativity collide. Enjoy the evening at leisure.
Breakfast is included today.
Tuesday, May 25 – Budapest, Hungary
Begin the day at the Frankel Synagogue, where you’ll meet Rabbi Tamás Vero and Linda Vero-Bán. Through personal conversation, explore the unique Neolog movement and the evolving expressions of Jewish identity in Hungary today. Continue with a walking exploration of modern Budapest, where history, politics and memory intersect. At Liberty Square, encounter the powerful “Living Memorial” – a grassroots, ever-evolving installation created by citizens in response to the government’s controversial Occupation Monument. Through personal artifacts and daily presence, this space has become a living act of remembrance and protest. We’ll walk past the Hungarian Parliament, discussing Hungary’s complex political journey – from communism to its current democratic challenges and tensions. Pause at the haunting Shoes on the Danube memorial, honoring the thousands of Jews murdered along the riverbank by the Arrow Cross militia during World War II.
This afternoon is yours to explore. Whether you relax in Budapest’s famed thermal baths, browse the stalls of the Great Market Hall, or stroll along Andrássy Avenue, the city invites you to experience it in your own way.
In the evening, gather for a meaningful farewell dinner, offering time to reflect on shared experiences, conversations and insights from the journey. Conclude with a magical night cruise on the Danube, as Budapest’s illuminated skyline provides a stunning and memorable finale.
Breakfast and dinner are included today.
