Day 1 – Sunday, December 25 – Depart Miami
Embark Fathom’s Adonia, depart at 4:30 pm – Come to know the people of Cuba and explore the cultural treasures of this island, located just 90 miles off the coast of the United States. This afternoon, we set sail for Cuba. Get acquainted with your fellow travelers during an Amazing Journeys Welcome Orientation and enjoy the ship!
Day 2 – Monday, December 26 – At Sea
Cruising – Take part in workshops or engage in small group discussions that will educate you further for your Cuba experience. Explore cuisine as a window into the culture of the Cuban people. Pull up a chair poolside and enjoy music on deck or pamper yourself in the spa.
Day 3 – Tuesday, December 27 – Santiago de Cuba
Arrive at 9 am, depart at 6 pm – Our first destination is truly a gem and should not be missed. Step deep into the city’s colonial past as you tour the UNESCO World Heritage site of Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca. The coastal fortress, constructed in 1637 for the protection of the port city, holds the country’s most complete and best-preserved examples of Spanish-American military architecture and artifacts. The more recent past is represented at the location of the Battle of San Juan Hill, where you visit the watchtower, get an up-close view of the cannons used during this important battle of the Spanish-American War and view the memorial dedicated to those who lost their lives.
Day 4 – Wednesday, December 28 – Cienfuegos
Arrive at 2 pm, depart at 8 pm – On our afternoon walk of this small but shining port city, we’ll visit a pharmacy, a market and a local ration store, meeting local residents and learning about Cuba’s country-wide ration and dual currency systems. Our day also includes a private performance by the renowned acapella Choir of Cienfuegos, with the opportunity to sit down afterward with the musicians to learn more about their lives, their training, and their roles as music professors at area schools.
Day 5 – Thursday, December 29 – At Sea
Cruising – Try your hand at salsa dance lessons and learn to mix an authentic Cuban cocktail. Take part in Amazing Journeys group discussions on the Cuban people as well as the Jewish community of the past, present and future. Kick back and relax poolside to the sounds of a local Cuban band, brought onboard for our entertainment. The day is yours to recharge.
Day 6 – Friday, December 30 – Havana
Arrive at 8 am – Our onshore adventure continues with the flavors of Old Havana. After an authentic Cuban lunch at a local paladar, dive deep into the city’s 16th-century heritage with a walking tour of Old Havana. Meet business owners and have the chance to do a little shopping at the Almacenes San José Artisans’ Market, Havana’s largest craft market. The day continues as you get to meet the people and see the synagogues which will introduce you to the Jewish presence of Cuba. Join together with the group for an Amazing Journeys Shabbat. Tonight is a free night where you’ll have the chance to sample Havana’s legendary music and entertainment scene, a very different side of the city’s heritage. We’ll offer optional excursions this evening (additional fee applies).
Day 7 – Saturday, December 31 – Havana
Depart at 4 pm – Our day begins with a visit to a place where Cuban history is still being made. At the Plaza de la Revolucion, Fidel Castro has addressed millions of Cubans on numerous occasions. Join a local guide to tour the highlights and hear the stories of the 140-acre Cementerio de Cristóbal Colón, a massive cemetery that is almost a city of its own. Visit an artist colony or a dance studio to discover the arts and talents of the Cuban people. This evening, gear up for an evening of New Year’s Eve festivities. Dance the night away to ring in an amazing 2017!
Day 8 – Sunday, January 1 – Arrive Miami
Arrive at 7:30 am – Our cruise ends here. You’ll take home memories of your experience in Cuba and friendships to last a lifetime.
