Sunday, July 10 – Arrive Iceland – Embarkation – Cruise Begins

Embark MS Fridjof Nansen – You will arrive in Iceland today. Reykjavík is the northernmost capital city in the world. The name means ‘Smokey Bay,’ so called because of the columns of steam that rise from the many hot springs in the area. Upon arrival, head to our ship to begin embarkation procedures on Hurtigruten’s brand new ship, MS Fridjof Nansen. Estimated time of departure is 6pm. We’ll kick off our journey with an Amazing Journeys Group Orientation, followed by a Welcome Dinner. (D)

Monday, July 11 – Tuesday, July 12 – Crossing the Denmark Strait

We leave Iceland behind and sail across the Irminger Sea and the Denmark Strait. This is the same crossing that was used by the Vikings to migrate from Iceland to Greenland some 1,000 years ago. Enjoy introductory lectures on local history and biology for insight into the upcoming destinations. Relax on the MS Fridjof Nansen with her two-story panorama lounge over the bow, wall-to-wall windows that bathe the room in natural light and provide extraordinary views. Wednesday, July 13 – Qaqortoq

Many consider Qaqortoq one of the most beautiful towns in Greenland for its colorful houses and photogenic setting. It is the biggest town in South Greenland, with some 3,000 inhabitants, but still easy to explore on foot. You can also join one of our excursions to get even more insight into local culture. Join gatherings where the various members of the expedition team recount the day’s activities, make presentations, and discuss the next day’s plan. These gatherings are great opportunities to share and mingle with your fellow explorers. (B, L, D)

Thursday, July 14 – Kvanefjord

We discover the beautiful region of Paamiut by sailing deep into the Kvanefjord. Our experienced captain and Expedition Leader will take advantage of the current weather and ice conditions to identify our activity for the day. This could be a hike ashore for a scenic view of the area, or possibly small-boat cruising or kayaking. (B, L, D)

Friday, July 15 – Maniitsoq

Maniitsoq was founded in 1755 and its name means `The Uneven Place,´referring to the rocky hills and mountains shaping the layout of the town. It is also known as the `Venice of Greenland´ as it is situated in an archipelago, intersected by natural canals. The local museum charts the town´s rich history and culture. Tonight, join together as a community for our own Amazing Journeys Shabbat gathering, Greenland style! (B, L, D)

Saturday, July 16 – Sisimiut

Sisimiut is situated 25 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The name means `The People Living in a Place of Fox Dens.´ This is the second largest town in Greenland, a modern, picturesque settlement that maintains ancient traditions. We offer a variety of exciting excursions to discover the many things to do in Sisimiut. Tonight, join together for an Amazing Journeys cocktail party. (B, L, D)

Sunday, July 17 – Ilulissat

Ilulissat is set in the stunning scenery of the Ilulissat Icefjord UNESCO World Heritage Site. At the mouth of the fjord you can see enormous icebergs that have run aground. These ice masses originate from the Jakobshavn Glacier, one of the fastest-moving glaciers in the world. Join one of our many excursions here. (B, L, D)

Monday, July 18 – Vaigat Sound

We now arrive at the northernmost point in our itinerary. There are several excellent landing sites in Vaigat Sound offering breathtaking landscape and Arctic flora. Our experienced captain and Expedition Leader will take advantage of the current weather and ice conditions to identify our activity for the day. (B, L, D)

Tuesday, July 19 – Evighed Fjord

On one side of the meandering Evighed Fjord is an ice cap that often crashes massive chunks of ice into the water. Around us are the highest mountains in West Greenland with peaks, up to 26,600 feet in height, sometimes swirling with mist. Conditions on the day will determine the final program and the range of activities on offer by the Expedition Team. (B, L, D)

Wednesday, July 20 – Nuuk

Nuuk is situated at the mouth of one of the most spectacular fjord systems in the world. The capital city is where old and new traditions meet, from historic buildings in `Kolonihavnen´ to the modern Centre for Greenland Self Rule. Another feature is the National Museum – home to the famous mummies of Qilakitsoq. (B, L, D)

Thursday, July 21 – Ivittuut

According to archaeologists, Vikings settled in this area more than a thousand years ago but didn’t remain. Ivittuut is believed to be the last Norse settlement in Greenland, but first to be abandoned. Nowadays, the only inhabitants that might appear in the town are wandering musk oxen that normally graze in the nearby plains. (B, L, D)

Friday, July 22 – Prins Christian Sund

This long fjord is surrounded by mountains that reach over 3,900 feet, and up to 7,280 feet high. Many glaciers go straight into its waters where they calve icebergs of all shapes, shades, and sizes. If the channel is blocked with ice, we will sail around Nunap Isua (Cape Farewell) instead. Tonight, join us for our Amazing Journeys Shabbat services. (B, L, D)

Saturday, July 23 – Sunday, July 24 – Irminger Sea

After exploring exhilarating Greenland, we set course back to Iceland. Spend the days at sea recapping your experiences, having fun in the Science Center, or just relaxing on deck, looking at the seabirds which follow our ship or maybe even spotting whales. This evening we’ll get together for our Amazing Journeys Farewell program. (B, L, D)

Monday, July 25 – Reykjavik, Iceland – Disembarkation – Cruise Ends

You arrive back in the Icelandic capital early in the morning. Estimated time of arrival is 6am. After disembarkation procedures, you’ll head to the airport. (B)

Stateroom options:

• An outside cabin on lower/middle deck (decks 4 & 5, Category RR) is 215 square feet.
• An outside cabin with balcony on upper deck (decks 7 & 8, Category XT) is 160-200 square feet.
• Deluxe cabin categories are available upon request at an additional fee. We are unable to match roommates in deluxe cabin categories.

These rates are based on an all-inclusive package that differs from offerings seen in public advertising. Prices are subject to change based on availability. Cabin types are limited including single occupancy staterooms and are based on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who sign up first receive priority cabin location.

Post-Night Stay in Reykjavik (July 25): For those who want to stay after the cruise, we have a limited number of rooms held at a hotel in Reykjavik. Please note – there will be no Amazing Journeys staff present nor will there be programming on these days. We are not able to match roommates for extra night stays. Rates include taxes and breakfast.

Cancellation Policy for Cruise and Pre-Cruise Package: From the time of initial deposit until February 3, 2022, there is a $100 penalty for cancellation. February 4 – April 1, 2022 – the cancellation penalty is 50% of the package price. From April 2 – May 2, 2022 – the cancellation penalty is 75% of the package price. Cancellations made from May 3, 2022 until the day of departure and including “no-shows” will receive no refund. There is no refund in the event of interruption or cancellation after the start of the journey. Cancellation insurance is highly recommended. Information will be sent with cruise confirmation.

Passport & Visa: A Passport is necessary to travel on this itinerary. It must be valid for six months beyond the last day of the trip. At this time, no visas are necessary to enter Iceland or Greenland for US, UK, Canadian and Australian citizens. If you are a citizen of any other country, you should check with the Embassy of Iceland and the Embassy of Greenland in your own country for matters pertaining to visas.

COVID Precautions: Until further notice, we require you to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 at least two weeks before departure, and a booster is recommended to keep you healthy and safe while traveling but at this time, not required. Please send us a copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card with the CDC logo by email or fax to Amazing Journeys. We do not test for COVID-19 or any other diseases. It is up to each traveler to be aware of any requirements or changes to state and country mandates and airline requirements as they are changing often. Depending upon the situation at the time of this trip and the destination, some components may be modified, and masks may be required as determined by the CDC or the countries we are visiting.

Taxes, Surcharges, Government Fees and Gratuities: Taxes, surcharges and government fees have been included in the rate. Gratuities are “not expected” and so they have not been included. At this time there are no arrival or departure taxes from Iceland for US citizens. Taxes, surcharges and government fees are subject to change.

Air and Transfers: International airfare has not been included in the rate. Information will be sent at a later date regarding airport transfers. You will be flying to and from Keflavik, Iceland (KEF).
