Wednesday, June 28 – Arrival Nairobi – Tour Begins
You’ll arrive at Nairobi Jomo Kenyatta International Airport late this evening. After going through immigration and baggage collection, you’ll be met by our local representative and transferred to your hotel for the evening. Enjoy a good night sleep after your long flight.
Thursday, June 29 – Nairobi
This morning, you’ll meet our Amazing Journeys group while having breakfast at the hotel, followed by our Amazing Journeys Welcome and Group Orientation. Our first visit will be to the Daphne Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, where they rescue and rehabilitate injured or orphaned elephants as a result of poaching. Their projects allow many of these gentle and lovable creatures to one day return to the wild. It is an experience that will be engrained in your memory for a long time. Our next visit will be to the Giraffe Centre and Karen Blixen Museum. The Giraffe Centre was started to protect the most vulnerable of the world’s tallest animals, together with teaching local school children and international travelers about Kenya’s wildlife by allowing visitors to the center to come into close contact with the Rothschild giraffes and sharing concerns about environmental issues as they relate to their wellbeing. At the Karen Blixen Museum, you’ll discover more about the Danish author, famous for her 1937 classic, “Out of Africa” as you visit her former African home. We’ll enjoy lunch at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and have the opportunity to look at some local Masai women’s beaded creations while at the center. This evening, we hope you’re hungry because we’ve included dinner at the world famous Carnivore Restaurant, a meat eaters dream come true. Don’t eat meat? That’s OK, just ask to eat what the giraffe’s eat – we’re sure they’ll find you something delicious! (B, L, D)
Friday, June 30 – Nairobi – Masai Mara Game Reserve
This morning, we drive overland to the world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve. The Masai Mara is Kenya’s finest and most outstanding wildlife sanctuary where gentle rolling grassland ensures animals are never out of sight. The climate is gentle, rarely too hot and well spread rainfall year-round. We’ll arrive at our luxury tented camp in time for lunch, where you’ll be able to relax as we’ll spend the next three nights here. In the late afternoon, we’ll have our first official game drive, the perfect time to see animals as they enjoy their time under the late-afternoon sun, going to the watering holes and preparing for the evening. This evening, we’ll celebrate Shabbat together with our Amazing Journeys community before enjoying Shabbat dinner; a buffet filled with international, Asian and African traditional dishes. (B, L, D)
Saturday, July 1 – Masai Mara Game Reserve
This morning, embark on an optional hot air balloon ride! Experience the Masai Mara at a whole different level as your balloon soars high above the treetops, savannah and rugged river. Experience a stunning sunrise as you lift off and the sun illuminates the waking wildlife below (extra fee). After touching down, enjoy a champagne bush breakfast. If you are not hot air ballooning, spend the morning on a game drive in the Mara before returning to the camp for breakfast. In the late afternoon, everyone will be together for an additional game drive. The trees in the distance might turn out to be a family of giraffes. Those clump of bushes a pride of lions, and the rock that moves, a rhino lumbering out of your way. At Amazing Journeys, we never want you to be too far away from a party, and so the party will come to us with a sundowner cocktail, a tradition you will soon come to love, at a location with spectacular views of the setting tropical sun. We’ve even arranged entertainment from local Masai dancers. Tonight, enjoy a group dinner on our property set in the quiet wilderness of the Masai Mara National Reserve. (B, L, D)
Sunday, July 2 – Masai Mara Game Reserve
We head out early this morning and watch the awakening of another beautiful and inspiring African day. Today, we’ll set out on an early morning game drive and stop at a secluded spot on the banks of the Mara River for a sumptuous breakfast with the hippos! After, enjoy a mid-morning game drive back to the camp. Enroute, we’ll experience the life of the Masai Tribe as we visit a village and meet some of the locals. Relax over lunch and spend some time reading, socializing and comparing animal sightings. Later, embark on a late afternoon game drive. (B, L, D)
Monday, July 3 – Masai Mara – Fly to Serengeti
After an early morning breakfast, we’ll check out and transfer to Mara Serena Airstrip for a scheduled flight to Migori Airstrip in Kenya. We’ll be met on arrival and transferred to Isebania Border for immigration clearance. From here, we’ll proceed to Tarime Airstrip in Tanzania for our scheduled flight to the Serengeti. The entire process takes about 3.5 hours. Upon arrival, we’ll transfer to our camp with a game drive en route. Enjoy lunch at the camp, followed by a late afternoon game drive in the Western Serengeti. This is prime viewing time for the Great Migration which happens along the Western Corridor of the Serengeti around this time. Fingers crossed as it is never a guaranteed thing, it depends upon the rains which effect how the grass grows and is completely dependent upon nature and the environment. This evening, enjoy dinner together at the beautiful Kiwariwa Luxury Tented Camp. (B, L, D)
Tuesday, July 4 – Serengeti Game Reserve
Enjoy your day in the magnificent Serengeti Game Reserve with early morning and late afternoon game drives. With its wide-open spaces, bright blue skies and creature-filled landscape, large prides of lions laze in the long grasses; plentiful families of elephants feed on acacia bark and trumpet to each other across the plains, while giraffes, gazelles, monkeys, eland and the whole range of African wildlife present themselves in awe-inspiring numbers. With any luck, we’ll see large herds of wildebeest and zebra as they make their way across the plains. This evening, enjoy another round with our Sundowner cocktails at a location with spectacular views of the setting tropical sun. (B, L, D)
Wednesday, July 5 – Serengeti – Ngorongoro
This morning, take in all of the wildlife on our early morning game drive followed by breakfast at the lodge. We’ll soon depart our camp and drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. A stopover is made at Ol Duvai Gorge and museum, the site of the Leakey familys’ discovery of fossils of human and animal ancestors dating back to almost two million years. It’s amazing! We continue to our lodge, arriving in time for lunch. The rest of the afternoon is free to relax. Tonight, gather together for a group dinner at the lodge, followed by music in the bar for those who want a bit of nightlife. (B, L, D)
Thursday, July 6 – Ngorongoro – Lake Manyara
After an early morning breakfast at the lodge, we depart with picnic lunch boxes in tow, and descend 2,000 feet to the crater floor to explore this natural zoological park where we observe an extraordinary variety of wildlife. The Ngorongoro Crater’s enduring charm stems from its overwhelming beauty and the abundance of wildlife who are permanent residents on the crater floor. After our safari in this remarkable landscape, we ascend from the crater and drive to Lake Manyara, arriving late in the afternoon for our two-night stay. We’ll check-in just in time for dinner at the lodge. (B, L, D)
Friday, July 7 – Lake Manyara National Park
After having breakfast at the lodge, we depart for a half day game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, a petite park, famous for its tree climbing lions. We’ll return to our lodge for lunch, and after, we have an afternoon to spend at leisure. Enjoy the pool and the beautiful surroundings at our lodge. Tonight, we’ll gather together for Shabbat services, followed by an Amazing Journeys Farewell Event with a beautiful dinner and our own special brand of entertainment. (B, L, D)
Saturday, July 8 – Arusha – Zanzibar or Home – Tour Ends
After a leisurely breakfast, we depart for Arusha. Those flying home this evening will be treated to a delightful lunch at the Arusha Coffee Lodge.
