Tuesday, June 21 – Jerusalem – Eilat
This afternoon, we depart from Jerusalem and drive to the southern tip of Israel arriving in Eilat. After checking-in at our waterfront hotel, enjoy the evening exploring Eilat with others from our group.
Wednesday, June 22 – Eilat – Petra – Eilat
After breakfast, we drive to the Arava Border Crossing leading from the State of Israel to the Kingdom of Jordan. Once in Jordan, we’ll drive up to the “Desert Highway” to the “Rose Red City” of Petra, a honeycomb of hand-crafted caves, temples and tombs carved from pink sandstone in the desert some 2000 years ago. This UNESCO Worth Heritage Site must be seen by your own eyes to believe. Enter Petra through the famous Siq, a narrow natural gorge that ensured the secrecy of the entrance to Petra. All of a sudden, the valley of Petra opens up and you will see the famous Al-Khazneh (Treasury). Al-Khazneh is one of the most elaborate temples in Petra. We will spend the day exploring the impressive sites of Petra before driving back to Eilat for a group dinner. (B, L, D)
Thursday, June 23 – Eilat – Tel Aviv – Tour Ends
This morning, we’ll visit the Eilat Underwater Observatory where an astonishing variety of tropical fish and coral are visible in their natural habitat. Head north to the natural wonder that is Makhtesh Ramon. We’ll drive deep into the crater to see some of its wonders and learn how this geological marvel formed over millions of years. After, visit the desert tomb of Israel’s founding Prime Minister David Ben Gurion and examine his vision of “making the desert bloom.” From here, we will continue to Ben Gurion International Airport where we will say our goodbyes to new friends and Israel as we take our flights home.
