A group dinner onboard the beautiful Oceania Marina will follow.
Saturday, July 11 – Lysekil, Sweden
Arrive at 7 am, depart at 5 pm – Embrace genuine Swedish coastal charm. Cobblestone streets, colorful wooden houses and maritime views make it feel like you’re stepping into a postcard. Explore the captivating marine life at Havets Hus aquarium or head to Stångehuvud Nature Reserve just outside town to admire pink granite cliffs and sweeping fjord vistas along easy walking trails. Sample fresh herring or smoked seafood at waterfront cafés, and stroll through Old Town’s boutique shops and historic alleys for the perfect blend of relaxation, discovery and Swedish hospitality. Tonight, join us for some AJ fun, followed by a group dinner.
Sunday, July 12 – Aarhus, Denmark
Arrive at 7 am, depart at 5 pm – Denmark’s second largest city, Aarhus is an attractively compact medieval town full of modern flair – chic galleries, cutting edge restaurants and intriguing museums. The laid-back ambiance and welcoming locals only add to the appeal of the “World’s Smallest Big City.” Stroll the cobblestone streets of the 14th-century Latin Quarter and pop into one of the many eateries for a smørrebrød sandwich in between browsing the boutiques. Whether you visit one of the notable museums such as the innovative Moesgaard Museum or the showstopping ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, tour the lush botanical gardens of Marselisborg Palace, or explore the open-air museum of urban history at Den Gamle By, it’s easy to see why Aarhus is Denmark’s rising star. Tonight, we’ll come together for an Amazing Journeys cocktail party, followed by more fun onboard.
Monday, July 13 – Kiel, Germany
Arrive at 7 am, depart at 8 pm – The grand harbor and seaside promenade take center stage in this historical maritime city that’s the gateway to the famed Kiel Canal. Everywhere you go – the Kiel Fjord, the museums and memorials in the city center, the bustling waterfront known as Kiellinie – you’ll feel the seafaring and naval influences. Top choices include the maritime-focused Schifffahrtsmuseum, Aquarium GEOMAR, Botanical Gardens Kiel and of course, stopping at a café along the promenade to enjoy the ever-changing vista of the harbor. Just outside of Kiel in Laboe, you can explore a restored German submarine U-995 on Ostsee beach, a somber reminder of the city’s role as the main German submarine base during World War II. This evening, partake in a variety of activities and dinner onboard our floating resort.
Tuesday, July 14 – Berlin, (Warnemunde), Germany
Arrive at 6 am – Enjoy a scenic drive to the German capital and visit landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and the glorious Charlottenburg Palace. We will be offering an overnight option for those who want to make the most of our time in Berlin including many of the highlights that this city has to offer and the opportunity to experience nightlife in Berlin. Explore the ins and outs of Berlin’s infamous Jewish community. Hear the stories, and see the sights of Jewish Germany that are woven throughout the city. For those who have been, or want to stick closer to the ship, experience the medieval landmarks of Rostock, take a boat cruise or stroll through Warnemunde in search for the perfect pretzel.
Wednesday, July 15 – Berlin, (Warnemunde), Germany
Depart at 10 pm – Those who have selected the overnight option will continue their exploration through Berlin. If you choose not to travel to Berlin, Warnemunde and the surrounding areas offer some great options. Take a train ride from the Mecklenburg countryside, take a tour to learn more about World War II history, or stroll the vibrant New Market Square in Rostock. This evening, we will all meet back onboard before sailing to yet another country on this amazing itinerary.
Thursday, July 16 – Ronne (Bornholm), Denmark
Arrive at 7 am, depart at 3 pm – Largely rebuilt after World War II, Rønne still feels historic because even the new buildings reflect the older architecture. As a result, walking from more modern areas into the charming Old Town (Gamle Stan) is less noticeable. Don’t miss the 14th century St. Nicholas Church, one of the more iconic buildings on Bornholm Island, or the massive round-tower castle and its fascinating military museum in the south of Rønne. To better understand the island’s seafaring and natural history, visit Bornholm Museum. Back onboard, enjoy stunning views as we sail away. After, the ship is our playground as we enjoy the many activities available onboard.
Friday, July 17 – Klaipeda, Lithuania
Arrive at 7 am, depart at 3 pm – Lithuania’s third largest city, Klaipeda has been in and out of the hands of the Russians, Swedes and Germans. Marvel at the impressive, and verbosely christened, St. Mergeles Marijos Taikos Karalienes Church tower and walk through Anika Square. Head to the pristine Baltic waters lapping at the broad sands of Smiltyne Beach. Or duck into the Clock Museum or Castle Museum. Onboard, join together with our Amazing Journeys friends this evening for our community Shabbat, followed by a group dinner.
Saturday, July 18 – Helsinki, Finland
Arrive at 1 pm, depart at 9 pm – Although not technically in Scandinavia, Helsinki acts very Scandinavian. The city was founded by Swedes in 1550 and became the capital of Finland in 1812. Today, Helsinki is a business and industrial center, and is also an intellectual town with a major university and many cultural institutions. Locals still refer to it as a “big village,” but the city is actually a pretty sophisticated place, offering tourists a clean environment with nice harbor views, lots of shopping opportunities, and is notable for its parks and squares and its neoclassical city buildings dating from the 19th century. This evening, join with your friends onboard to recap your favorite part of the the day as we toast Scandinavia with a cocktail onboard.
Sunday, July 19 – Tallinn, Estonia
Arrive at 7 am, depart at 4 pm – Tallinn, a UNESCO world heritage site, was founded in the 12th century and has been under the rule of Denmark, Sweden, Germany, and Russia, and all have left their mark on the city’s architecture. Tallinn is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Northern Europe, and makes a beautiful impression from the sea, with its ancient city walls, church spires, and the red-tile roofed homes. Step back in time as you walk through this medieval town and discover its upper and lower levels, the guild houses, the churches and squares, the famous apothecary shop and the exquisite town hall. See delightful parks, Baroque palaces and a ruined 15th century convent. Or visit a lovely recreated rural Estonian village by the sea. This evening, join together with your AJ friends for our Farewell Event, followed by a final group dinner together.
Monday, July 20 – Stockholm, Sweden
Arrive at 8 am – Soak in the last of your Scandinavian experience as we head home, taking with us new friends and memories of a fabulous vacation. Or, stick around for a few more days and take in the sights, sounds and flavors of Stockholm with our two-night post-cruise option!
