Cancellation Policy: From the time of deposit until April 8, 2021, there is a $50 penalty for cancellation. From April 9 – May 19, 2021, the cancellation penalty is $400. From May 20 – July 6, 2021 the cancellation penalty is 50% of the cost of the tour. From July 7, 2021 until the day of travel, the cancellation penalty is 100% of the cost of the tour. Cancellations made on the day of departure and “no-shows” will receive no refund. There is no refund in the event of interruption or cancellation by the passenger after the start of the journey. Travel protection is recommended for participation in this program.
Travel Protection & Trip Cancellation Waiver: Amazing Journeys highly recommends you purchase Travel Protection. For US citizens, our tour operator offers a travel protection and cancellation waiver for $269. You may cancel for any reason up to one-day prior to the start of the first component purchased from Amazing Journeys for this tour package. This Cancel For Any Reason policy must be purchased at the time of deposit. Click here for full policy terms and details. If you are requesting a double occupancy room, should you need to cancel, you will be responsible for the difference between the double occupancy and the single occupancy rate as your roommate will still be occupying the stateroom. Once purchased, this policy is non-refundable. More information will be sent with your tour confirmation.
Flights and Transfers: Airfare is not included in the tour rate. The tour begins and ends at our hotel in Rapid City. You would need to fly into Rapid City, SD. More information on optional transfers will be sent to you as we get closer to the tour date.
COVID Precautions: Until further notice, we require you to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19 at least two weeks before departure, and you must send us a copy of your COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card with the CDC logo by email to or fax to Amazing Journeys. We do not test for COVID-19 or any other diseases. Masks will be required in all indoor public spaces except when dining. It is up to each traveler to be aware of any requirements or changes to state mandates and airline requirements as they are changing often. We are currently operating smaller groups and using larger busses. Masks will be required in all indoor public spaces. Many events will be held outside and we will be having reminders of social distancing. Hand sanitizers will be distributed, and frequent hand washing and sanitizing will be encouraged throughout your stay. Depending upon the situation at the time of this trip and the destination, some tour components may be modified, including meals and how many travelers we may limit to sitting at each table. During this time of Covid, we will not be doing roommate matching. If you have someone to room with and the two of you are agreeable to rooming together, double occupancy rooms are available.
Passports & Visas: If you are from outside of the United States, a passport is necessary to travel on this itinerary. It must be valid for six months beyond the last day of the trip. Please note that visa requirements can change at any time and it is up to the traveler to be aware of visa requirements.
Taxes & Gratuities: Taxes, surcharges, and government fees have been included and are subject to change. Gratuities have been included on this tour and include tips for the tour manager, local guides, drivers, luggage porters and included meals. Gratuities are not included for housekeeping staff in the hotel and tipping is at your discretion.

Friday, July 30 – Arrival in Rapid City, South Dakota – Tour Begins
Welcome to the West. Your tour opens in Rapid City, long known as the gateway to the Black Hills. Tonight, join together with your fellow Amazing Journeys travelers for a Welcome and Orientation, followed by our community for a Shabbat service. After, our welcome group dinner will feature a Native American chronicler who shares stories about the Lakota and Sioux way of life. (D)
Saturday, July 31 – Rapid City – Crazy Horse – Mt. Rushmore – Rapid City
Learn the history of enterprising Westerners at the Chapel in the Hills. Visit Crazy Horse Memorial and delve into the story of the largest, still-in-progress mountain sculpture. Visit the Indian Museum of North America, the Native American Cultural Center, the sculptor’s studio, orientation center and theaters. Continue to Mount Rushmore National Memorial. Spend time with the epic figures of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln as you stroll along the Presidential Trail, offering the closest view of this iconic sculpture. This evening, we’ll return to Mount Rushmore for the nighttime lighting ceremony. (B)
Sunday, August 1 – Rapid City – Badlands – Wall – Rapid City
Embrace the allure of wide-open spaces and explore the larger-than-life Badlands National Park. At the visitor center, the stage is set for your adventure, with informative exhibits, displays and video to introduce you to the area. Travel the Badlands Loop Road, home to vibrant colors and rock formations created by mineral deposits. Visit the legendary Wall Drug, a store barely changed since 1936. Do a little browsing, have a seat at the soda fountain, and perhaps grab a bite for lunch. (B)
Monday, August 2 – Rapid City – Deadwood – Rapid City
Get ready for Deadwood where gold, gambling, and gunpowder were once the order of the day. This National Historic Landmark comes alive as if you’ve stepped onto the set of an old-fashioned Western. A local guide shows you to the city, including where Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane are buried. Enjoy free time before it’s your choice – take a guided tour of the Adams House, dedicated to preserving Deadwood’s history -OR- visit Kevin Costner’s Tatanka: Story of the Bison, sculptures depicting the relationship between bison and the Lakota. This evening, enjoy a dinner and Western show at the High Plains Heritage Center. (B, D)
Tuesday, August 3 – Rapid City – Custer – Rapid City
Head to Custer State Park and keep your eyes peeled for bighorn sheep or wandering elk. Take in the lush landscape, rocky outcrops, and grazing animals as you make your way through South Dakota’s first state park. Venture off-road with an exciting Buffalo Safari, cruising deep into the park in an open-air jeep and searching for herds of roaming buffalo. (B)
Wednesday, August 4 – Rapid City – Devils Tower National Monument, Wyoming – Rapid City
Get your bearings at the Geographic Center of the Nation, marking the middle of the US. Cross into Wyoming and view the first national monument – Devils Tower. Stand in awe before this lofty monolith, perhaps hiking the 1.3 mile Tower Trail around the base. Although famous as the backdrop in Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the tower is also sacred to many local tribes. This evening, join together with our Amazing Journeys travelers for our Farewell presentation, followed by a group dinner as the end of our South Dakota adventure draws near. (B, D)
