After disembarking from a memorable Japan cruise, spending three days in Tokyo offers the perfect continuation of your journey with immersive and experiential sightseeing we have planned for you. As a group, we’ll dive into the heart of Japan’s vibrant capital by exploring historic neighborhoods like Asakusa, where the ancient Senso-ji Temple stands in contrast to the modern skyline, then unwind with a traditional tea ceremony and a visit to the colorful Meiji Jingu Shrine, surrounded by lush forest.
Engage with local culture through hands-on experiences as you select from several immersive half day tours including sushi making classes, Japanese drumming, a Samurai Kembu experience, where you dress like an ancient warrior and learn the moves to go with it, or discover that you are part of the art at teamLab Planets, which utilizes digital technology for a modern Japanese spin to art.
We’ve also left you plenty of free time where you can stroll through the bustling streets of Shibuya and Shinjuku for a taste of urban energy, go to see a sumo practice or even the main event, if you are able to score tickets. You can enjoy a night at a themed izakaya for local drinks and conversation. Each moment in Tokyo blends tradition with innovation, leaving lasting impressions at every turn.

After disembarking from the Diamond Princess, we’ll transfer to Tokyo to begin an exciting day of sightseeing. Your cultural immersion starts with a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, followed by a visit to the historic Asakusa district, where we’ll explore the iconic Sensoji Temple and stroll down Nakamise Street – one of Japan’s oldest and most vibrant shopping streets. Gather for lunch at a local restaurant. This evening is yours to enjoy however you choose.(L)

Alternatively, you can join a dynamic Taiko Drum experience, where you’ll take part in a step-by-step class that brings the rhythms of ancient Japan to life. Afterward, explore the vibrant Harajuku area, including the famous Takeshita Street, known for its colorful fashion and pop culture. The rest of the day and evening free to spend at your leisure, whether you’re out exploring the streets of Shibuya or taking in a specialty show. (B)
Wednesday, May 20 – Tokyo, Japan
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, embark on a half-day tour with two exciting options. Afterward, enjoy free time to grab lunch – perhaps ramen or sushi (pay your way) – before visiting the serene and unique Buddhist Temple at the Hie Shrine. Option 2 offers a hands-on sushi making workshop with a professional chef, where you’ll learn how to roll sushi, shape rice and select quality ingredients, followed by enjoying your handmade sushi for lunch (please note – dietary restrictions cannot be accommodated on this tour). Then, explore the lively Tsukiji Fish Market, one of the busiest seafood markets in the world, handling over 2,000 tons of fresh seafood per day! The rest of the afternoon is yours to relax or explore at leisure. In the evening, we’ll come together for a farewell dinner at the hotel – our final chance to reflect and say sayonara to Japan and your fellow travelers. (B, D)
